Full Description
Our tour starts outside the Parliament, at Syntagma square, where we will watch the ceremonial changing of the Guards, in front of the monument of the unknown soldier. Your expert, licensed guide will explain to you in detail all about the Guards, the building of the Parliament that was a palace before, Syntagma square and more.We will walk through the National Gardens, where we will get away, for a while, from the heat and the noise of the city, as we will be surrounded by various plants, flowers and palm trees that offer us shade and a much cooler temperature.By taking the favorite path of Queen Amalia, we will find ourselves in front of the beautiful, neoclassical building of Zappeion, an important exhibition and conference hall. We will continue our nice walk through the Gardens to arrive at the Panathenaic Stadium. Even from outside it looks amazing, as its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is all made of marble that sparkles under the sunlight!We will enter the Stadium, where you will get an unforgettable guided tour, all around the Stadium, the seats, the royal thrones, the stoa that,in the Roman period, was used by the gladiators and the wild animals and later in the medieval times, was transformed to the stoa of the witches. Today the stoa hosts a very interesting exhibition with pictures and documents from all the Olympic games that were held after 1896, the restarting year. You can even run, if you wish, in the Stadium to get a full experience of the place.After the Stadium we will continue to the temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch, where you will learn all about the stories and the facts that surround the remains of this colossal temple, in Corinthian style.The tour ends across the pedestrian street of Dionysiou Areopagitou, at the statue of Melina Merkouri, the famous actress with the international career that became Minister of Culture and fought for the rights of the women in Greece and started the big issue of the return of the Parthenon marbles from the British museum.Or if you wish, you can continue with the Acropolis tour, the museum tour or the Plaka tour.
